New reports have emerged regarding dancehall star Shatta Wale, who allegedly declined to perform at Richard Nii Armah Quaye’s grand birthday celebration due to a disagreement over payment.
According to sources, Shatta Wale allegedly demanded the same performance fee that was paid to Nigerian superstar Davido.
However, the organizers were unwilling to meet his demand, leading the self-proclaimed “Dancehall King” to decline the invitation.
There were also claims that Stonebwoy and Sarkodie graced the stage without any payment—Shatta Wale took a firm stance, insisting that his brand holds just as much value as Davido’s.
His decision has since fueled heated debates online, with some supporting his stand for fair compensation, while others believe he may have missed out on a golden opportunity.
So far, neither Shatta Wale nor the event organizers have officially commented on the issue.
However, fans are already speculating whether this move will further deepen industry tensions or set a new precedent for how local artists negotiate their worth.
Should Ghanaian artists demand equal pay when performing alongside international stars, or should they sometimes compromise for the sake of exposure? The debate rages on.
