Security Expert Richard Komadoe Weighs in on the Bawku Conflict, Calls for Collaborative Mediation .

Renowned Security Consultant and Fraud Expert, Mr. Richard Komadoe has shared his insights on the ongoing conflict in Bawku, emphasizing the need for strategic mediation action. Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Citizen Kofi Owusu show, Mr. Komadoe underscored the importance of national and traditional leaders in restoring peace to the troubled area.

According to Mr. Komadoe, President John Mahama, recently announced that the mediation team led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II would commence work this week. “We are hopeful that their intervention will yield positive results. However, to enhance the peace process, it is crucial to involve other stakeholders such as the Peace Council, the Christian Council, and the National House of Chiefs. Leveraging all available mediation mechanisms as a nation will help establish a foundation for lasting peace,” he said.

He also highlighted the significant challenges law enforcement agencies face in maintaining order under current circumstances. “The situation in Bawku has severely tested the capabilities of the police and military on the ground. Without a coordinated approach, we continue to witness tragic loss of lives, which must stop,” Mr. Komadoe remarked.

Politicization of the Conflict

Mr. Komadoe expressed strong concerns about the role of politicians in exacerbating the conflict. “When politicians publicly discuss Bawku without restraint, it only deepens the existing divides among the people. The issue worsened when some politicians facilitated the enstoolment of a chief without consulting key stakeholders like the police or Otumfuo Asantehene. These actions undermine law enforcement and create chaos for those tasked with maintaining order,” he explained.

He stressed that political meddling has further destabilized the region, leaving law enforcement officers and the military to face mounting challenges. “You can’t expect peace while sidelining proper consultation and due process. It’s the politicians who have fueled much of this conflict,” he added.

Appeal for Cooperation

In his closing remarks, Mr. Komadoe appealed to the residents of Bawku to view law enforcement officers as allies rather than adversaries. “The police and military are your brothers and sisters. They are the only hope for maintaining order until the mediation team can provide credible solutions. Attacking and killing security personnel will only escalate the situation and hinder peace efforts,” he cautioned.

He issued a stern warning, stating, “Law enforcement will not turn a blind eye to the killing of their personnel. Justice will be pursued, and such acts will only lead to further complications.”

Mr. Komadoe’s comments serve as a call to action for collaborative efforts, urging all parties to prioritize peace and accountability to bring a resolution to the Bawku conflict.
