Security Expert Richard Komadoe Comments on Helicopter Crash Committee Reports and Black Box Transparency

Security expert Richard Komadoe recently shared his insights following the release of the Helicopter Crash committee reports and addressed public curiosity regarding the black box findings. Speaking with Citizen Kofi Owusu on Ahotor FM, Komadoe provided a detailed explanation of why the black box data is not being made available to the general public.

According to Komadoe, the helicopter involved in the crash is Chinese-made, which means the black box, following international aviation procedures, is sent to China for analysis. He emphasized that this is standard protocol since the black box’s manufacturer holds responsibility for decoding and interpreting its data. While the general public may not receive the black box report, the investigators had the opportunity to listen to the recordings inside the black box. This access allowed them to cross-check the cockpit communications with other investigation findings, enhancing the accuracy and reliability of the overall report.

Komadoe also explained that the black box data is controlled primarily by the Ghanaian government and China, as the helicopter’s owner and manufacturer, respectively. He noted that if there is a desire to release the black box information publicly, it would require cooperation between the Ghanaian authorities and Chinese officials.

Furthermore, Komadoe clarified that the investigation report itself is prepared by the appointed investigators but is handed over solely to the Ghanaian government, who commissioned the inquiry. The government then holds the responsibility of sharing the report with the public. Komadoe mentioned that while the report contains technical terms, it remains the official account of the incident. Transparency around the investigation is, therefore, within the remit of the Ghana government, which can decide the extent of information released.

In summary, Richard Komadoe underscored that while the black box details remain confidential due to international aviation rules and manufacturer involvement, the investigation team had full access to the data. The Ghanaian government, working with China, has control over how much of this information becomes available to the public. The expert encourages patience and trust in the official processes governing such aviation investigations.
