Renowned security intelligence and conflict analyst, Mr. Anthony Acquaye has responded to public concerns regarding the National Intelligence Bureau’s (NIB) handling of the arrest of Reverend John Ntim Fordjour. In an interview with Citizen Kofi Owusu on Ahotor FM, Mr. Acquaye defended the NIB’s actions, urging the public to consider the gravity of Rev. Fordjour’s allegations.
“Why are people not questioning Rev. John Ntim Fordjour about the evidence behind his claims?” Mr. Acquaye queried. He emphasized that the reverend’s allegations—concerning drug trafficking and money laundering at Kotoka International Airport—constitute a serious attack on the integrity of Ghana’s security institutions. Such statements, he said, have dire implications for national security and could severely tarnish Ghana’s reputation on the international stage.
Mr. Acquaye highlighted the potential fallout from these unsubstantiated claims, stating, “If we truly understood the risks these allegations pose to Ghana and its citizens, we wouldn’t question the methods the NIB has employed. Instead, we should demand accountability from Rev. Fordjour himself.”
Allegations Lacking Evidence
It has been over two weeks since Rev. Fordjour made what Mr. Acquaye is described as “reckless and baseless allegations.” According to him, security agencies, under the directive of the President, have made multiple attempts to engage Rev. Fordjour in a cordial and collaborative manner. The aim, he said, was to provide the reverend with an opportunity to substantiate his claims and assist in ongoing investigations.
However, Rev. Fordjour has reportedly refused to cooperate. “He has consistently avoided engaging with the security agencies, all while continuing to repeat these allegations,” Mr. Acquaye remarked. “This kind of behaviour raises serious concerns, as it not only undermines our security institutions but also jeopardizes the country’s stability.”
The Need for Firm Action
Mr. Acquaye expressed concern over the potential consequences of allowing such actions to go unchecked. “The NIB has shown restraint in handling Rev. Fordjour, but his actions pose a threat to national security. Any operation necessary to ensure his cooperation and accountability must be carried out,” he stated firmly.
He concluded by calling on Rev. Fordjour to retract his statements and issue a public apology. “This issue is bigger than politics. It’s about protecting the credibility of our security institutions and safeguarding Ghana’s international image. Rev. Fordjour must take responsibility for his actions and admit that his intentions were misguided.”
