“Security Consultant Questions Critics of Mahama’s Endorsement of Speaker Bagbin”.

Security Consultant Richard Komadoe has addressed criticisms surrounding former President John Dramani Mahama’s endorsement of Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament. His remarks follow public debate over Mahama’s influence in urging NDC MPs-elect to support Bagbin for the prestigious role.

Speaking on the matter, Mr. Komadoe outlined the transition timeline of Ghana’s Parliament, noting that the 8th Parliament officially came to a close at 9 a.m., while the 9th Parliament would commence at 10 p.m. Reflecting on the endorsement, he reminded critics of Mahama’s pivotal role in securing Bagbin’s position as Speaker in 2020.

“Some people are questioning why John Mahama is publicly backing Alban Bagbin again, but it seems they’ve either forgotten history or are deliberately trying to stir up unnecessary controversy,” Komadoe stated. “Back in 2020, it was Mahama who directed NDC MPs to support Bagbin for Speaker, and the same process is being followed now. So what is the issue this time?”

He dismissed criticisms of Mahama’s actions as baseless and provocative. “It’s almost as if these critics just woke up from drinking porridge and have no grasp of what’s happening. The endorsement is strategic and reflects Mahama’s commitment to ensuring capable leadership in Parliament.”

Mr. Komadoe emphasized that there is nothing unusual or improper about the former President’s endorsement of Bagbin, describing it as a reflection of sound political judgment and respect for Bagbin’s experience and leadership capabilities.

He called on the public to focus on the significant role Bagbin will play in managing the complexities of a nearly evenly split Parliament, rather than engaging in needless political distractions.
