School feeding program: what is our interest as a country – Fred Agbenyo asks gov’t
Deputy Director of International Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fred Agbenyo asks if we are just interested in the number of pupils we feed and not the quality of food in the school feeding program policy.
Speaking to the media monitored by Onokwafo Yaw Asiedu of Ahotor FM, Mr. Agbenyo said the program was initiated in 2005 by the Ghana government in collaboration with the Dutch government with the aim of retaining more students in school.
“At the time of the SFP initiative, we were looking at enrollment, we were looking at attendance in school and how to retain students in school”, he added.
According to him, the issue that came on board was that most students were not getting nutritious food, hence the move to give students hot nutritious meals once every day.
Mr. Fred Agbenyo stated that the school feeding program was beautiful on paper and if it would have been implemented as such, we won’t be having issues today.
