Samartex Concedes Defeat in Ghana Premier League Title Chase
FC Samartex’s Business Development manager, Paul Anyaba, has acknowledged that his team cannot defend their Ghana Premier League title.
The Timber Giants made history last season by clinching the Premier League title for the first time, but their inconsistent performance this season has made it impossible for them to repeat the feat.
Samartex are currently 9th on the league standings after 25 matches, a far cry from their title-winning performance last season.
Anyaba attributed their struggles to the dynamics in the game, citing the strong performances of teams like Asante Kotoko, Ashanti Gold, and Hearts of Oak.
Speaking in an interview, Anyaba said, “I’m a realist, sometimes you need to look at all the factors and admit to reality. Looking at the position of Kotoko, Goldstars, Hearts of Oak and all the dynamics, I think that we have to play and get a respectable position and rather focus on next season.”
Despite conceding defeat in the title chase, Samartex will still aim to finish the season on a high note. They will travel to face Legon Cities in matchday 27 of the Ghana Premier League campaign on Sunday, hoping to upset the Royals at their own backyard.
Anyaba’s comments suggest that Samartex are already looking ahead to next season, where they will aim to rebuild and make a stronger push for the title.
The team’s focus will be on developing their players and strengthening their squad to make a more competitive challenge in the future.
