SALAGA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL VIOLENCE: ONE STUDENT HOSPITALIZED, SEVERAL OTHERS FLEE
A recent attack on students of Salaga Senior High School in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region has left one student unconscious and hospitalized. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, February 6, also prompted several other students, primarily from the Salaga township, to flee the school, with their whereabouts currently unknown.
According to sources, the disturbance began when students from Salaga on campus marched to the headmaster’s office, demanding the release of three suspects arrested by the police in connection with an earlier altercation between two student groups. The students argued that the arrests were one-sided and sought fairness. However, the headmaster declined their request, leading the students to protest by pelting stones.
The situation escalated when youth from Kpembe, a suburb of Salaga, stormed the school and assaulted the students, resulting in one student being hospitalized. Despite the incident, no arrests have been made by the police. Nevertheless, officers have been deployed to the school to maintain order and protect lives and property.
Background
The recent incident is linked to a violent clash that occurred at the school on Saturday, February 1, 2025, during an entertainment event. The dispute began between two day students and was later reported to their respective groups in Kpembe and Salaga townships, fueling tensions that led to the violent outburst.
On Tuesday, February 4, twenty students were arrested following the clash, with seventeen subsequently granted bail. The remaining three students are to be processed for court. A locally manufactured gun was also retrieved by the police.
Investigation
A seven-member committee has been established to investigate the incident, with findings expected to include the cause of the clash and recommendations for preventing similar occurrences in the future.
