Sakumono School Complex 2 JHS Triumphs at Ahotor Academic Showdown Season 2

The vibrant Ahotor Academic Showdown Season 2 unfolded today at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Sakumono Village, drawing enthusiastic crowds and showcasing the intellectual prowess of junior high school students from the Tema West area. Organized by Ahotor FM, the event featured fierce competition among four schools, with dignitaries including Tema West Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Isaac Macarthy-Mensah, Ahotor FM General Manager, Ohuma Bosco Ocansey, gracing the occasion.

In a thrilling quiz contest, Sakumono School Complex 2 JHS clinched first place with an impressive 47.5 points, demonstrating sharp knowledge and quick thinking. Westfield International School secured second position with 42 points, while Prince of Peace Presbyterian School took third with 41 points. Batsoona TWMA JHS rounded out the top four with 37.5 points. Winners and participants alike were rewarded with medals, certificates, smartphones, microwaves, deep freezers, refrigerators, and other prizes, celebrating their dedication.

Tema West Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Isaac Macarthy-Mensah, expressed delight at the event’s success during an interview. “I was thrilled to see students answering questions with such confidence before a full audience,” he said. He urged all schools in the Tema area to participate in similar programs and recommended appointing dedicated coaches to prepare students, noting that quiz questions could mirror those in the 2026 BECE.

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Municipal Director for Tema-West, Mr. Fidel Nii Akuffo-Bortey echoed the call for broader involvement. He emphasized that learning extends beyond classrooms, thriving through quizzes and academic competitions. “Corporate bodies should sponsor these initiatives to ensure they grow,” he added, stressing the need for strong foundations in students’ upbringing and encouraging rigorous preparation for the next season.

Participants from the victorious Sakumono School Complex 2 JHS beamed with joy, expressing heartfelt gratitude to their coaches, teachers, Ahotor FM, Sinomie Instant Noodles, and the quiz coordinators. Their win not only highlights individual excellence but also underscores the power of community-driven educational events in fostering a culture of academic rivalry and growth in Tema West.
