Sporting Lisbon have ruthlessly sacked Ruben Amorim’s replacement on Christmas Day around 11:55pm after just eight games in charge.
Joao Pereira, who was promoted from Sporting’s B-team, has won just three of his games at the helm prompting his premature departure from the Portuguese giants.
The capital club, who had a 100-percent record in the Primeira Liga this season before he took over but has lost top spot in the Portuguese top flight to Benfica following a 0-0 draw with Gil Vicente last weekend.
Pereira who replaced Reuben Amorim for his move Manchester United in November also lost his first four Premier League and Champions League matches in charge.
Sporting’s brief statement read: “A Lion forever. Thank you, Joao Pereira.”
Pereira, 40, was a former full back who enjoyed three separate spells playing for the club.
