Ruben Amorim tells Man Utd ‘I need Viktor Gyokeres now’ in January transfer window.

United are among the lowest scorers in the Premier League this season - and in desperate need of a world class finisher, hence Gyokeres's conversation.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has told club bosses he cannot wait until the summer to land his top target, with the fallen giants slumped in 14th in the Premier League.

Life in Manchester has all not been rosy for Amorim since taking charge at United last November, replacing Erik Ten Hag. The former Sporting Lisbon manager has made the worst start of any United manager in 103 years, and insists the club is now in a relegation battle.

United finished 2024 in 14th place and lost five league defeats in December alone. The ‘Reds Devils’ have conceded 26 goals and scored 21 in nineteen Premier leagues alone which have made settling at the Old Trafford a difficult one bear with.

“It’s a really difficult moment, one of the most difficult moments in Manchester United’s history,” he told reporters after Newcastle defeat.

“It’s a bit embarrassing to be Manchester United coach and lose a lot of games’, he concluded.

“I don’t want to find excuses, people are tired of it,” said Amorim.

“Our club needs a shock.” Just press the reset button once, everything back to square one – that would be nice”, he concluded.

Daily Star have reported Ruben Amorim has told club bosses he cannot wait until the summer to get Gyokeres – and needs to sign him now. The outlet further stated Amorim is expected to see Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee leave Old Trafford in the coming weeks due to woeful form.

AhotorSports understands the move to sign Gyokeres would cost United around £80m but will have to be approved by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazers.

Gyokeres has made name for himself in Europe after a remarkable scoring feats with Sporting Lisbon-having scored 26 goals in 24 games this season, including a stunning hat-trick to demolish Manchester City in the Champions League in November under his former manager Reuben Amorim-who he could possibly reunite at United.
