Road Safety Authority’s Kwaku Duffour Appeals for Vigilance to Prevent Easter Accidents

Speaking on Ahotor FM with Citizen Kofi Owusu, Mr. Kwaku Duffour, a member of the Road Safety Authority, emphasized the importance of road safety during the Easter season. He highlighted that the festive period often sees an increase in road accidents, involving not only drivers but also passengers, pedestrians, and road-crossers.

“Easter is a time of celebration, but sadly, it often becomes a period marked by tragic road accidents,” he noted. “Drivers need to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey. Check the water levels, engine oil, and the state of your tyres, including having a spare tyre. Make sure you have essential tools like a jack and a warning triangle. If you don’t have these, get them immediately.”

Mr. Duffour urged drivers to reduce their speed, especially during the busy Easter season, to prevent avoidable accidents.

He also touched on common driver behaviours that contribute to accidents. “Some drivers allow personal issues or distractions to cloud their judgment on the road. Even if another driver makes a mistake, it is your responsibility to break and avoid a collision. Think about the passengers in your car – they haven’t made any mistakes and deserve to be safe.”

Mr. Duffour cautioned drivers not to let passengers dictate their driving. “Do not allow passengers to pressure you into overspeeding or taking unnecessary risks. You are in control, and your primary duty is to ensure everyone’s safety. Additionally, alcohol and driving don’t mix. If you must drink, wait until you’re safely at home.”

He ended his message with a heartfelt appeal to all road users – drivers, passengers, and pedestrians – to prioritize safety and make this Easter a joyous, accident-free celebration.
