The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has raised serious concern over a sharp increase in road crashes across the country, with the latest figures showing a troubling rise in both accidents and fatalities.
According to newly released data from the Authority, a total of 3,674 road crashes were recorded between January and March 2025, resulting in 752 deaths. This marks a 23.5% increase in crashes compared to the same period in 2024, signaling a growing public safety crisis on Ghana’s roads.
In an interview with Ahotor News, Head of Corporate Affairs at the NRSA, Simbiat Wiredu, expressed deep worry over the trend, warning that immediate action is needed to reverse the deadly pattern.
The NRSA is urging stronger enforcement of traffic laws, increased public education campaigns, and greater investment in road infrastructure as part of a coordinated national response. Wiredu also called on transport unions, commercial drivers, and private motorists to take greater responsibility for safety on the roads.
The Authority plans to intensify its national awareness campaigns and collaborate more closely with the Ghana Police Service, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), and other stakeholders to implement stricter compliance measures throughout the rest of the year.
