Revealed: Kofi Abanga admitted of taking money from Asante Kotoko in his controversial transfer to Hearts of Oak
Former Aduana Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak attacking midfielder has confirmed that he initially signed a pre contract with Kumasi Asante Kotoko before his controversial switch to Accra Hearts of Oak.
The transfer of Kofi Abanga “Tevez” from Aduana FC to the Phobians stirred a lot of controversies in Ghana seventeen years ago.
After many years, Tevez has disclosed in an interview with the Kumasi based TV Station, Fakye Sports that he indeed took money from the Porcupine Warriors as speculated.
“Yes, I took Ghc 10,000.00 from Asante Kotoko, I signed a pre contract with them and even trained with the team for some weeks”
“It was a very huge money then time, I bought my first plot of land from this same money” he added.
Kofi Abanga explained that he was persuaded to sign with Hearts of Oak after Nana Dormaahene who had been approached by the Phobians intervened.
“I met the now Bantamahene, during that time he was in charge of Asante Kotoko, after our conversation I was contacted by Nana Dormaahene that Accra Hearts of Oak have come to see him personally for my signature, so due to the respect and honor they gave to Nana Agyemang Badu II he made me sign for them”
Despite media reports claiming Asante had signed Abanga, the 2000 CAF Champions beat Liberty Professional, Ashanti Gold and Tema Youth to sign him.
