The Ashanti Regional Minister’s comment had a devastating impact on the fire personnel who fought the Kumasi market fire, leaving them feeling demoralized and saddened. However, the Regional Commander quickly stepped in to motivate the team, helping to boost their spirits.
According to DO3 Peter Addae, PRO for the National Fire Service in the Ashanti Region, the fire personnel’s actions were guided by instructions from the Regional Commander, emphasizing that they were following a structured plan to combat the fire.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by firefighters in Ghana. Recently, firefighters responding to a fire at the Kumasi race course market were attacked by a mob, who accused them of being delayed. The Fire Station Commander, D.O.3 Simon Ben Boadu, denied these claims, stating that fire appliances arrived at the scene within five minutes of receiving the distress call.
The market fire resulted in significant losses for traders, with many losing food items, fabric, and other merchandise. The cause of the fire was attributed to the congestion of combustible materials at the market.
The incident underscores the need for support and appreciation for firefighters, who risk their lives to protect others.
The Regional Commander’s swift action to motivate the team is a positive step, but more needs to be done to address the challenges faced by firefighters in Ghana.
