Referees Are To Honor Matches Before They Are Paid – GFA General Secretary
The General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association , Prosper Harrison Addo has revealed that per conventions, referees are to honor assigned matches before they are been paid.
During a session at the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture, Prosper Addo expressed that referees are responsible for covering their own expenses to honor a match that has been assigned to and once the match is completed, these expenses are calculated and reimbursed within a period of time.
GFA General Secretary stated that GFA pay over GH₵6,000 per match in the Ghana premier League, where four referees and a match commissioner are appointed , each earning GH₵1,100 . He emphasized the practice of referees pre-financing their expenses is a standard convention, even at the CAF level.
