Ghanaian rapper D-Cryme, whose real name is Darlington Agyekum, has thrown his hat into the ring for the presidency of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at Methodist University. He made the announcement on April 7, 2025, through a social media post, rallying students to support his leadership vision.
In his message, D-Cryme emphasized his commitment to transformational leadership with a focus on Transparency, Accountability, and Action. He stated that his goal is to create a campus environment that supports, protects, and uplifts every student.
To achieve this vision, D-Cryme and his team have laid out ten key pillars:

He also pointed out the contributions he has already made to the university, such as the creation of the Wall of Fame to honor exceptional administrators and lecturers, as well as launching the Digital Screen Initiative, which has helped improve communication and engagement across campus.
D-Cryme’s run for SRC president comes after several musicians in Ghana have made similar moves in the past few years. Notably, Samini, a reggae/dancehall artist, was elected as SRC President at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in 2022. Maradona Adjei Yeboah (Guru) currently holds the SRC president position at the University of Ghana.
D-Cryme is widely recognized for his hit songs like “Kill Me Shy,” ” “Fine Fine Girl,” “Me Ne Woaa, and “My Lady.” With his background in music and leadership, D-Cryme aims to bring a fresh, innovative approach to student leadership at Methodist University.
