Accra, Ghana – President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has urged Muslims to use Ramadan as a time for deep spiritual reflection.
According to the President, Ramadan is about more than just abstaining from food and drink; it is an opportunity for personal and communal growth.
Speaking at the Black Star Square, where he joined the Chief Imam, Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, and other Muslim dignitaries for the 2025 Eid-Ul-Fitr prayers, President Mahama emphasized the values that Ghanaians must uphold.
“Faith, sacrifice, unity, and compassion are what we need. Ramadan is more than just abstaining from food and drink. It is a time for deep spiritual reflection,” he said.
President Mahama further stated that Ramadan serves as a reminder for Muslims and all Ghanaians to cleanse their hearts of bitterness and embrace patience, love, and humility.
“It is a time for self-discipline, and it is a time for kindness towards others. This period invites us to cleanse our hearts of bitterness while embracing the principles of patience, love, and humility,” he stated.
Promoting peace and harmony, the President urged those who had conflicts with others during Ramadan to take steps toward reconciliation.
“And so, if you have a quarrel with somebody this month of Ramadan, after Salah, go to the person’s house and make peace with them,” he stated.
