Arsenal made light work of Bolton Wanderers as they recorded a 5-1 win at the Emirates Stadium. Head coach Mikel Arteta made changes in his starting eleven on Wednesday evening.
There were starts for forward Nwaneri, 16-year-old goalkeeper Jack Porter and experienced Raheem Sterling. Arsenal having made a lot of changes proved to be too much for Bolton.
Declan Rice got Arsenal off to a great start in the 16th minute with the opener before Ethan Nwaneri made it two in the 37th minute after the ball was laid in his path by Raheem Sterling who was making his first start for the Gunners.
Bolton upped their performance as they chased the game but Arsenal had it under control. Three minutes after the interval break Arsenal made it 3-0. Nwaneri slotted the ball past goalkeeper Luke Southwood. Collins pulled one back in the 53rd minute. Collins rounded off goalkeeper Jack Porter after he was set up by McTeer.
The glimmer of hope was short-lived as Raheem Sterling scored what was to be the final goal of the night. With an assist and a goal in his first start, Mikel Arteta will be happy his acquisition is starting to show promise.
Arteta made several substitutions to give some younger players valuable game time. Ismael Kabia and Maldini Kacurri were introduced.
Kai Havertz rounded off the scoring in the 77th minute securing Arsenal’s qualification to the fourth round of the 2024/2025 EFL Cup.
