Sarkodie is facing criticism after Prophet Mensah threatened to bring “total poverty” upon him unless he apologizes for a cryptic post that many in as a jab at President Mahama’s return to power.
In a dramatic move, Prophet Mensah has given the well-known Ghanaian rapper a week to apologize to President John Dramani Mahama for what he considers a disrespectful remark. Sarkodie’s Instagram statement, “Back to Gari soakings like we never left,” made after Mahama’s inauguration, stirred up controversy.
In a viral video, the prophet is shown boiling herbs in a rubber bucket over a fire, declaring that he will inflict “total poverty” on Sarkodie and his family if the rapper does not apologize within seven days.
The post has drawn significant backlash from the public, with many recalling Sarkodie’s silence during former President Akufo-Addo’s administration, despite his prior criticisms of corruption and the energy crisis during Mahama’s earlier presidency from 2012 to 2016.
Furthermore, Prophet Mensah’s ultimatum comes amid ongoing speculation that Sarkodie subtly supports the New Patriotic Party (NPP). His collaboration with Kuami Eugene in 2020, “Happy Day,” which included references to the then-president, did little to quell these rumours.
Mahama, now the 14th President of Ghana after a landslide victory in the December 7, 2024 elections, is accompanied by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the first woman to hold that role.
As opinions remain divided regarding Sarkodie’s controversial remark, many are eagerly awaiting his response to Prophet Mensah’s dramatic demands.
