The Member of Parliament (MP) for Zebilla in the Upper East Region has criticized former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Aaron Oquaye, accusing him of double standards following Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare certain parliamentary seats vacant.
The Zebilla MP expressed his disappointment, stating that someone of Prof. Oquaye’s stature should not display such inconsistencies.
He explained that Speaker Bagbin had merely followed due process by requesting certified documentation from the Electoral Commission concerning MPs involved in cross-carpeting.
According to the Zebilla MP, once the facts are verified, Speaker Bagbin is justified in his actions.
In his interview with the media, the Zebilla MP emphasized his belief that Speaker Bagbin would not act contrary to the Ghanaian Constitution, regardless of party affiliations.
He noted that he had reviewed Prof. Oquaye’s ruling regarding the Fomena MP and argued that the facts of that case were not different from the current situation.
The MP also urged Prof. Oquaye to act appropriately, pointing out that the former Speaker set the precedent for the current developments.
