Prof. Adu Gyamfi Cautions Minority Chief Whip Over Ablekuma North Election Remarks

Renowned political historian and lecturer at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Samuel Adu Gyamfi, has called on Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annor Dompreh, to be mindful of his comments regarding the disputed Ablekuma North parliamentary election.

The Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP recently warned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would make governance difficult if their candidate, Akua Afriyie, is not declared the rightful winner. His statement has raised concerns about political stability and respect for democratic institutions.

Prof. Adu Gyamfi has strongly advised Annor Dompreh to exercise caution in his public statements, emphasizing that such threats have the potential to undermine Ghana’s democratic principles. He warned that inflammatory remarks from political leaders could escalate tensions and erode public confidence in electoral and governance processes.

“Our democracy is built on respect for institutions and the rule of law,” Prof. Adu Gyamfi stated. “Threats to disrupt governance over election disputes set a dangerous precedent and should not be encouraged. Political leaders must be responsible in their rhetoric.”

The historian further urged state institutions, including the Electoral Commission (EC) and security agencies, to act swiftly on Dompreh’s comments to prevent any attempts to destabilize parliamentary proceedings. He stressed the importance of preserving national unity and ensuring that election disputes are resolved through legal means rather than threats and political pressure.
