On December 10, 2024, actor and New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporter Prince David Osei offered a sincere apology to National Democratic Congress (NDC) members who may have taken offense to his statements during the campaign.
In a reconciliatory Facebook post, he acknowledged the NDC’s victory in the 2024 elections and called for unity moving forward.
He wrote, “I sincerely apologize if my comments during the campaign upset any NDC members. We were all focused on winning, but now let’s look ahead and foster peace. God bless Ghana.”
This gesture has been well-received as a move toward reconciliation following a contentious election period. However, Prince David Osei also disclosed earlier that he faced threats from NDC supporters. In another Facebook post, he shared:
“To some NDC supporters, is this really what democracy looks like? Even after winning an election, some resort to violence, insults, and intimidation. It’s alarming to consider how things might have been if you had lost. Now that I see I’m a target, I’ll be ready. God is my strength and protector. Approach with caution. Not everyone is willing to engage in conflict. I’m not scared, just surprised.”
This follows controversy over a previous remark he made about former President John Dramani Mahama, referring to him as a “drunkard.” In a now-viral tweet, he stated, “Even drunkard you voted for kwasia boy!! Learn sense wai Gyimi.”
This comment drew widespread backlash, with many criticizing it as “disrespectful” and “insensitive.” Social media users and political observers have urged public figures like Prince David Osei to adopt a more respectful tone in political discussions, especially given Ghana’s focus on promoting national unity.
