President Mahama to Chair Special Cabinet Session on 2025 Budget – Kwakye Ofosu

President John Dramani Mahama will lead a critical cabinet meeting today, Friday, March 7, 2025, to deliberate on the much-anticipated 2025 budget. This announcement was made by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

In a post on Facebook, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated that he would address the press after the session to provide updates on the outcomes and other significant developments from the week.

This meeting comes just days before the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, is scheduled to present the 2025 budget to Parliament on Tuesday, March 11. Dr. Forson has already set the stage for heightened public expectations, emphasizing that the budget is centered on “shaping a stronger future for all.”

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) page, Dr. Forson called for public input, stating:

> “With just 5 days to the Presentation of Budget 2025 on Tuesday, March 11th, anticipation is building! We want to hear from you! What are your expectations for this year’s budget? What areas should be a top priority? Drop your thoughts in the comments! This budget is about shaping a stronger future for all—let’s talk about what matters most to you!”

The upcoming budget presentation will be the first under Dr. Forson’s leadership as Finance Minister and is expected to provide a detailed economic analysis alongside government policy proposals aimed at driving Ghana’s economic transformation. These measures align with President Mahama’s vision of resetting the economy and enhancing the nation’s development trajectory.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu earlier revealed during a media briefing that the policies in the 2025 budget would reflect recommendations from the National Economic Dialogue held on March 3 and 4. This dialogue brought together stakeholders across various sectors to discuss practical solutions to the nation’s economic challenges.

Additionally, he highlighted key steps taken towards implementing President Mahama’s transformative agenda, particularly the rollout of the 24-hour Economy initiative. He noted that the Presidential Advisor on the policy, Mr. Gossie Tandoh, has been actively coordinating efforts to bring this vision to life.

During the cabinet session, Dr. Forson reportedly painted a grim picture of Ghana’s current economic state, describing it as “dire.” He revealed that the economic data inherited by the Mahama administration was worse than initially anticipated, underscoring the need for urgent and robust policy interventions.

As the nation awaits the formal presentation of the 2025 budget, all eyes are on the government’s plans to address pressing challenges while laying the foundation for sustainable growth and economic recovery.
