President Mahama selects Buem Member of Parliament Kofi Adams as Minister Designate for Sports and Recreation

After a long wait, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has named his minister for the rebranded Ministry of Sports and Recreation in the person of Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, an NDC member of Parliament for Buem Constituency in the Oti Region.

The selection was confirmed on Tuesday Morning following the release of the third batch of Ministerial appointments for Parliamentary approval.

This comes as surprise to the sports world especially those in the football space as names like Dr Randy Abbey (Bankroller of Premier League side Kpando Heart of Lions), Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye (former Sports Minister), Francis Dodoo (former President of Ghana Athletics and Ghana Olympics Committee and a host of others were reportedly considered by the presidency to head the Sports ministry In 2025 .

The 49-year-old scholar, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology with emphasis on Epidemiology of Parasitic Diseases has a wealth of experience in both education and politics and has prior to his announcement as the Minister designate for Sports and Recreation revealed his ever-ready commitment to serving the ministry if selected.

“I will gladly accept the Sports Minister position if appointed, Let’s return to grassroot sports and implement it effectively.” he told GhOne TV.

Honorable Kofi Adams if successfully approved by the vetting committee will lead the supervision and implementation of President Mahama’s comprehensive policy on sports development and recreation in the country.
