President John Dramani Mahama has returned to Ghana following a successful official visit to France, where he held strategic bilateral talks and co-chaired the 2026 One Health Summit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron.
The President began his one-day official visit to Paris on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, with a high-level meeting with the President of the French Senate, Gérard Larcher.
He was accorded a ceremonial military welcome ahead of the engagement, reflecting the deep and longstanding diplomatic relations between Ghana and France.
Discussions with the French Senate leadership focused on strengthening cooperation in critical areas such as trade and investment, regional security, and the ongoing fight against terrorism in West Africa.
The two sides also explored avenues for increased French support in Ghana’s maternal health and agricultural sectors, while acknowledging the notable progress in Ghana’s economic recovery under President Mahama’s leadership.
President Mahama later proceeded to the Élysée Palace, where he held crucial talks with President Macron. The meeting centered on consolidating bilateral relations and unlocking new opportunities for economic collaboration between the two countries.
Prior to his engagements in Paris, President Mahama delivered a keynote address at the high-level One Health Summit held in Lyon on Tuesday, April 7, where he served as Co-Chair. In his address, he drew global attention to the rising threats posed by interconnected challenges such as infectious disease outbreaks, antimicrobial resistance, and disruptions in global food systems, calling for coordinated international action.
The President was accompanied by a high-powered delegation, including Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, National Security Advisor Prosper Bani, Secretary to the President Callistus Mahama, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide Joyce Bawah Mogtari, and Ghana’s Ambassador to France, Mavis Frimpong.
The visit marks another significant step in Ghana’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships, attract investment, and contribute to global solutions on health and security challenges.
