President Mahama Proposes Ghana-Liberia Partnership for Modern Cocoa Production

Accra, Ghana – The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has hinted at a partnership between Ghana and Liberia to introduce modern cocoa production methods as a joint venture between the two countries.

According to him, he has already discussed the initiative with his Liberian counterpart, and both leaders intend to pursue it further.

President Mahama highlighted Ghana’s extensive experience and research in cocoa production, stating that Ghana Cocoa Board could collaborate with Liberia to enhance cocoa farming using modern techniques.

“One area that I have discussed with President Boakai, and we intend to follow it up, is that Ghana has garnered a lot of experience and research into cocoa production. And I spoke with President Boakai to see how our Ghana Cocoa Board could partner with Liberia to introduce cocoa production using modern methods as a joint venture between our two countries,” he said.

He made these remarks during a credentials ceremony at the Presidency, where five newly accredited ambassadors to Ghana presented their letters of accreditation.

In a conversation with H.E. Mrs. Musu Jatu Ruhle, Ambassador of the Republic of Liberia, President Mahama disclosed that the leadership of Ghana Cocoa Board would soon engage their Liberian counterparts to discuss the partnership and joint production.

“And so we are going to send the leadership of our Cocoa Board soon to discuss with their counterparts in Liberia to see how we can start some joint production of cocoa together,” he said.

President Mahama expressed confidence that the collaboration would be mutually beneficial to both nations.

“We have a cocoa research institute that has been researching into cocoa for many years. And so we’ve got the experts and all that. And I think that collaboration in that area will be mutually beneficial to both Ghana and Liberia,”he stated.
