President Mahama Pledges to Revitalize Ghana’s Economy in Inaugural Speech

H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, has pledged to create an environment where businesses can flourish under his administration.

Speaking during his swearing-in ceremony at the Independence Square on Tuesday, January 7, 2024, President Mahama assured Ghanaians that his government would implement measures to reverse the economic struggles businesses faced under the previous NPP administration.

He emphasized his commitment to revising Ghana’s tax regime to make it fairer and more conducive for business growth.

“The new NDC government will rationalize the tax system so that businesses pay taxes that are fair and just. To all business owners, I can confidently say, Ghana is open for business again,” he stated.

A Call for Unity and Cooperation

In his inaugural address, President Mahama reiterated his dedication to serving as a selfless leader who values the cooperation and input of all Ghanaians.

He assured the nation that his leadership would be characterized by sound judgment and timely decision-making.

“I will be the leader who works with your cooperation and help, enabling me to make informed decisions at the right time,” he said.

Focus Areas of Governance

Acknowledging the challenging state of the economy, President Mahama outlined key priorities for his administration. These include:

Economic stabilization: Strengthening the business sector and fostering economic resilience.

Constitutional reforms: Ensuring governance systems are responsive and robust.

Accountability and anti-corruption: Enhancing transparency and trust in public institutions.

“The circumstances we find ourselves in are dire, but we will focus on stabilizing the economy, improving the business environment, undertaking governance reforms, and intensifying the fight against corruption,” he asserted.

Restoring Ghana’s Glory

President Mahama underscored the need for a national reset to restore Ghana to its former glory.

He highlighted the importance of renewing trust in the country’s institutions as a cornerstone for progress.

“With faith in our institutions and in our dear nation, Ghana, we can embark on this journey of renewal,” he affirmed.

President Mahama expressed his humility and gratitude for the opportunity to serve Ghana once again.
“I am honored and humbled to accept the mantle as President of the Republic of Ghana,” he declared.

He also celebrated the groundbreaking achievement of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who made history as Ghana’s first female Vice President.

“Her victory is not just a personal triumph but a victory for all women. Today, Ghana has turned a new page in its history books,” he remarked.

Concluding his speech, President Mahama called on all Ghanaians to unite in the shared vision of building a better nation.
