Highlighting a major milestone for military academia, President Mahama expressed his excitement about the recent establishment of the National Defence University with a Presidential Charter.

“Talking about academics in relation to the Ghana Armed Forces, I am particularly elated about the coming on stream of the National Defence University with a Presidential Charter,” he said.

“The Charter provides the Ghana Armed Forces the mandate to explore and facilitate extensive teaching and learning towards more effective national defence and security,” he noted.

According to the President, the Ghana Military Academy, as a key constituent of the National Defence University, stands to benefit from improved infrastructure and resources to fulfill its educational mandate.

“Conceptually, as one of the constituent colleges of the National Defence University, the Ghana Military Academy will receive the needed facilities to achieve its mandate,” he stated.

He further revealed that one of the major academic advancements under the NDU framework would be the upgrading of the commissioning course to postgraduate diploma status.

“This intervention will actualize the upgrading of the commissioning course to a postgraduate diploma, status for newly commissioned officers and so when the officers are commissioned, they will come out with a postgraduate diploma,” he said.

President Mahama firmly committed to helping the National Defence University reach its full potential.

“I am committed to supporting the National Defence University to realize its full potential,” he declared.

He added that the initiative aligns with the broader goal of expanding access to strategic higher education for both civilians and military personnel.

“This specialized institution will run strategic academic courses to support government’s efforts for strategic high education for qualified Ghanaians, civilians and the military,” he said.

The President concluded by stressing the importance of incorporating military discipline and doctrine into mainstream education to advance the country’s development agenda.

“The university will certainly be another opportunity to incorporate a mainstream military discipline and doctrine in our people, pursuing higher education with a view to accelerating our Reset Ghana agenda,” he stated.
