President Mahama: “Education is not just a Tool for Personal Development but a Bedrock of National Progress”

Ho, Ghana – President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has emphasized that education is not just a tool for personal development but the foundation of national progress.

According to him, education shapes the present and determines the future of a country.

The President officially launched the National Education Forum in Ho, bringing together key stakeholders to initiate discussions on transforming Ghana’s education system to better prepare students for the modern world.

Speaking at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho, under the theme “Transforming Education for a Sustainable Future,” President Mahama underscored the vital role of education in national development.

“Education is not just a tool for personal development. It is the bedrock upon which the progress and prosperity of any nation rests. It defines the present and determines the future of our country,” he said.

He stressed that education must remain a force for empowerment, equality, and transformation in Ghana, inspiring hope and creating opportunities for all.

“Education must remain a tool for empowerment, equality, and transformation in Ghana. It is also an important instrument for social mobility. It must inspire hope and deliver opportunity for all, whether you’re born in Accra or the most remote part of our nation,” he said.

The President noted that Ghana’s current education system has not kept pace with the demands of modern society.

“We recognize that the education system we inherited has not kept pace with the needs of 21st-century society and the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” he said.

He emphasized the need for continuous adaptation, stating that as the world evolves, so must Ghana’s education system.

“As the world evolves, so must our education system, because what worked in the past no longer suffices for the challenges and opportunities of today and tomorrow,” he said.

President Mahama described the National Education Forum as a crucial step in gathering diverse perspectives to drive meaningful education reforms.

“It is this realization that has brought us together here today, united in our belief that education reform is just not an option but a necessity,” he stated.
