President Mahama Donates Gifted Vehicles to State to Uphold New Code of Conduct

Accra, Ghana – President John Dramani Mahama has handed over two vehicles gifted to him to the state, reinforcing his administration’s pledge to uphold transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership.

The gesture was made public on Monday, May 5, 2025, in line with the newly launched Code of Conduct for government appointees, which sets strict ethical standards for all officials under the Executive.

The vehicles were officially presented by Government Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and received on behalf of the state by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, Dr. Valerie Sawyerr.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that any gifts or donations received in an official capacity must be declared and handed over to the state in accordance with the new code.

“When such gestures are received, officials are required to hand them over to the state,” he stated.

This move follows President Mahama’s promise to lead a government that operates with honor and integrity.

Earlier in the day, while launching the Code of Conduct at the Jubilee House, the President outlined a zero-tolerance approach to corruption, abuse of office, and disrespect toward citizens.

The comprehensive guidelines, which apply to ministers, deputy ministers, presidential staffers, CEOs, board members, and even the President and Vice-President themselves, are designed to restore public trust and instill a new culture of ethical governance.

President Mahama made it clear that violations of the code would attract severe consequences, including dismissal.

He described the code as “a declaration of intent” and a foundation for a new era of public service that prioritizes duty over indulgence and country over self.

The donation of the gifted vehicles, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu noted, is a symbolic but powerful demonstration of the administration’s resolve to lead by example and hold itself accountable to the very standards it expects from others.
