President Mahama Confirms Eni’s Commitment to Investing in Ghana

Accra, Ghana – The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has indicated that Eni Ghana Exploration and Production Limited (Eni) is willing to proceed with its investment in Ghana.

According to President Mahama, Eni had faced some challenges under the previous NPP administration, but those issues have now been resolved.

He made these remarks during a credentials ceremony where five newly accredited ambassadors to Ghana presented their letters at the Presidency.

In a conversation with H.E. Ms. Laura Ranalli, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy, the President stated:

“I met the chairman of ENI. He was here. We had very good discussions. There were some issues that they had during the previous administration. Happily, we’ve been able to resolve them, and so he indicated that they were willing to go ahead with their investment in Ghana.”

The Government of Ghana has officially withdrawn the unitisation directives issued in 2020, which had mandated the joint operation of oil fields by Eni Ghana Exploration and Production Limited (Eni) and Springfield Exploration and Production Limited (Springfield).
This move was made after the current administration assumed office.

President Mahama highlighted the strong partnership between Ghana and Eni, emphasizing that nearly 60% of Ghana’s total gas supply for power generation comes from the company.

He noted that Eni has the potential to increase its gas production with additional compartments allocated by the government.

“We have had a good partnership with them, and currently almost 60% of our total gas supply for power generation is coming from ENI, and they have the possibility of ramping that up with the other compartments that we gave them,” he said.

President Mahama further expressed his appreciation for the ongoing cooperation with Eni.

“So we’re in a good place, and we appreciate the cooperation that we’re having with them in that regard,” he added.

The President also pointed out future prospects for collaboration between the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Eni, and other interested organizations within the upstream oil and gas industry.

“There are more prospects for partnership between our GNPC and ENI and any other organizations that are interested in the upstream oil and gas industry, and so we’ll work together on that,” he stated.
