Accra, Ghana – President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has extended a direct invitation to the citizens of Ghana to actively participate in monitoring the implementation and compliance of the newly launched Code of Conduct for political appointees.
“I invite the citizens of Ghana to play a role in monitoring compliance of this code,” the President stated, emphasizing the essential role the public must play in holding political appointees accountable.
The Code of Conduct, unveiled on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Jubilee House, is a cornerstone of President Mahama’s 120-day social contract with the people of Ghana.
The initiative aims to restore discipline, promote ethical leadership, and rebuild public trust in government institutions.
Addressing attendees at the official launch, President Mahama announced that a dedicated online portal would be created to enable Ghanaians to report any suspected breaches of the Code, promising confidentiality and unbiased investigations.
“A portal will be created for the public to report suspected breaches with guarantees of confidentiality and impartial investigation,” he assured.
The wide-reaching code applies to a broad spectrum of government officials, including ministers, deputy ministers, presidential staffers, CEOs, board members, members of the Council of State, and other executive appointees.
Notably, it also binds the President and the Vice-President, signaling a strong commitment to leading by example.
One of the key provisions of the code is a strict prohibition against accepting gifts and acquiring state assets—practices that have long sparked concerns about corruption and abuse of office.
In his remarks, President Mahama described the code as more than a bureaucratic tool. He characterized it as a moral and political declaration—one that sets a new standard for public service.
“Ladies and gentlemen, what we launch today is more than a code, it is a declaration of intent. It is the foundation of a new ethos in public service, one that values ethics over expediency, duty over indulgence, country over self. We are here to serve and will serve with honor,” he said.
President Mahama’s administration is hopeful that with the backing of vigilant citizens, the Code of Conduct will usher in a new era of integrity, accountability, and responsible governance.
