Libreville, Gabon – Former President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, arrived in Libreville on Friday evening, May 2, 2025, to attend the official inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of Gabon’s President-elect, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.
The inauguration, held on Saturday, May 3, marks a significant political milestone following General Nguema’s decisive victory in the April 12 national elections.
His leadership follows a transitional period after the ousting of former President Omar Bongo in a military-led coup.
President Mahama’s attendance at the ceremony underscores Ghana’s commitment to regional solidarity, diplomacy, and democratic engagement across the African continent. It also reflects the longstanding cordial relations between Ghana and Gabon.
As a statesman with deep involvement in African peace and governance efforts, President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s dedication to supporting stability, security, and integration in the region.
Accompanying the former President were key members of his delegation, including National Security Advisor Prosper Douglas Bani, Secretary to the President Dr. Callistus Mahama, Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations Stan Xoese Dogbe.
