President Mahama Applauds Czech Republic’s Support for Ghana’s Healthcare through Vamed Health Projects

Accra, Ghana – The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has lauded the Government of the Czech Republic for its unwavering support towards the transformation of Ghana’s healthcare sector through the Vamed Health Projects initiative.

President Mahama commended the Czech-backed effort during a high-level meeting at the Jubilee House, where he hosted His Excellency Petr Pavel, President of the Czech Republic, who is in Ghana for a three-day state visit from Tuesday, April 8 to Thursday, April 10, 2025.

In his remarks, President Mahama emphasized the impact of the project, which includes the construction of twelve (12) 40-bed capacity hospitals and twelve (12) units of 2-bedroom semi-detached houses to accommodate hospital staff across several communities in Ghana.

“I commend the government of the Czech Republic for supporting Ghana’s healthcare sector through Vamed Health Projects and the construction of 12 40-bed capacity hospitals and 12 units of 2-bedroom semi-detached houses for hospital staff for the following beneficiary communities in Ghana Jumapo, Kwabeng, Nkwetia, Achiase, Suame, Drobonso, Sabronoum, Manso-NKwanta, Adukrom, Mim, Kyedie, and Kpong-Katamanso,” he stated.

President Petr Pavel’s visit is historic, marking the first official State Visit received by President Mahama since resuming office in January 2025, and only the second visit by a Czech President to Ghana—the last occurring over six decades ago during the era of Czechoslovakia.

The Czech delegation was welcomed at the Jubilee Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, and other top government officials, including Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, Legal Counsel to the President.

As part of his itinerary, President Petr Pavel is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Mahama, address a Ghana–Czech Business Forum, commission a Czech-funded health facility, and tour key national heritage sites such as the Osu Castle and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

This landmark visit is expected to further deepen Ghana-Czech diplomatic and economic relations, particularly in healthcare, infrastructure, and trade.
