President John Mahama to Launch Free Sanitary Pads Program for Over 2 Million Female Students

President John Dramani Mahama is set to officially launch the highly anticipated Free Sanitary Pads Program later today, a groundbreaking initiative that will benefit more than 2 million female students across Basic and Senior High Schools in Ghana.

The program, which is aimed at ensuring that young girls do not miss out on their education due to menstrual hygiene challenges, marks a major step forward in addressing gender inequality in education. The initiative will provide free sanitary pads to female students, making it easier for them to attend school without the disruption that menstrual cycles often cause.

In a press interaction, Dr. Clement Apaak, the Deputy Minister of Education, expressed his excitement about the launch and highlighted the far-reaching impact of the program.

The Free Sanitary Pads Program is not just about sanitary items; it’s about removing barriers that prevent our girls from staying in school and pursuing their dreams,” Dr. Apaak said.

He further explained that the initiative is a response to a growing concern about the number of young girls who miss school each month due to a lack of access to sanitary products.
He said Menstruation should never be an obstacle to education.
