President John Dramani Mahama Makes Unprecedented Visit to Ghana’s High Commission in Kenya

Nairobi, Kenya – On Sunday, 26 January 2025, the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, visited the residence and chancery of Ghana’s Head of Mission in Kenya.

The High Commissioner of Ghana to Kenya, His Excellency Damptey Bediako Asare, warmly welcomed President Mahama and took him on a guided tour of both the residence and the chancery.

During the tour, the High Commissioner showcased the upgraded infrastructure, emphasizing the improvements made to modernize the facility.

In his remarks, H.E. Damptey Bediako Asare expressed deep appreciation to President Mahama for honoring their invitation to tour the newly built facility.

He highlighted that while the mission had received visits from several political leaders in the past, the presence of President Mahama marked an unprecedented and historic occasion for the mission.

The property, originally acquired by Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, served as the location for the first chancery building.

However, the facility was closed down in 1980 due to structural deterioration.

In 2008, the government of Ghana resumed ownership of the property and initiated a comprehensive reconstruction project to restore it.

The reconstruction included the construction of a new residence for the Head of Mission and the modernization of the existing chancery.

By April 2024, staff of the High Commission had moved into the new facility, which now stands as a symbol of Ghana’s commitment to excellence in its diplomatic engagements.

President Mahama expressed his delight at the transformation of the facility, commending the staff for their hard work and dedication to duty.

He noted that the upgraded residence and chancery would enhance the mission’s capacity to serve Ghanaians in Kenya and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Accompanying President Mahama on this visit were Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the government’s acting spokesperson, and Mr. Stanislav Xoese Dogbe, Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations.

The visit underscored the President’s commitment to Ghana’s diplomatic missions and his recognition of their pivotal role in fostering international cooperation and development.
