President-Elect John Mahama Calls for Bold National Decisions to Drive Development – (AUDIO)

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to prepare for bold, transformative decisions that may not always be pleasant but are essential for the nation’s progress.

Addressing members of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council during a courtesy visit, H.E Mahama emphasized that the overwhelming mandate given to him and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the recent elections is a call to action for significant reforms.

A Mandate for Change

Mahama acknowledged the confidence Ghanaians have placed in his leadership, interpreting the electoral endorsement as a mandate to take decisive actions in the national interest.

“The people of Ghana gave us this huge endorsement so that we can take the bold decisions necessary to initiate the reforms that this country urgently needs,” he said.

Consensus Despite Majority

Despite the NDC’s commanding majority in Parliament, John Mahama stressed the importance of building consensus on key issues.

He noted that collaboration and unity would be essential to ensuring the success of the proposed reforms.

“Even though we have an overwhelming majority, we still have to build consensus in the way we approach things. It is not just about numbers; it is about finding common ground to move the country forward,” he remarked.

Unpleasant but Necessary Decisions

The President-elect acknowledged that some of the decisions his administration would make might be unpopular or difficult for Ghanaians to accept.

However, he assured the public that such decisions would be made solely in the national interest.

Using a metaphor, he explained, “Sometimes you are sick, and you have to take bitter medicine to get well. Similarly, some of the steps we must take may be unpleasant, but they are crucial for the recovery and development of our nation.”

The National Interest Above All

John Mahama reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the national interest in all decisions, whether pleasant or not.

“Not everything we do will please everyone, but whatever we do must serve the greater good of the country. For me, whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, it must always be in the national interest,” he emphasized.

A Call for Unity and Understanding

In conclusion, John Mahama urged Ghanaians to remain united and understanding as his government embarks on reforms aimed at reviving and rebuilding the country.

He called for patience and trust in his leadership, assuring the public that every step would be taken with the long-term benefit of the nation in mind.

The President-elect’s remarks reflect a vision of bold, collaborative leadership that seeks to navigate Ghana through challenging but transformative times.
