President-Elect John Dramani Mahama Announces Interim National Security Coordinating Team

Accra, Ghana – President-elect  H.E John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a six-member team tasked with overseeing and coordinating national security issues in the lead-up to substantive appointments in his administration.

The team, which brings together seasoned security experts and former high-ranking officials, will be led by Prosper Douglas Bani, a former Minister for the Interior renowned for his expertise in governance and crisis management.

In a statement issued from the Office of the President-elect, signed by Special Aide Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the remaining members of the team were introduced as follows:

Lt. General Peter Augustine Blay (Rtd.), former Chief of Defence Staff, whose distinguished military career includes decades of service in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity.

Kofi Totobi Quakyi, former Minister for National Security, a veteran strategist with extensive knowledge of Ghana’s security landscape.

Larry Gbevlo-Lartey Esq., former National Security Coordinator, widely respected for his legal acumen and pragmatic approach to national security challenges.

Brigadier General Fuseini Iddrisu (Rtd.), a retired military officer with an exemplary record in operational leadership.

COP Nathaniel Kofi Boakye (Rtd.), a retired Commissioner of Police, known for his unwavering commitment to law enforcement and public safety.

The team’s mandate officially begins on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, as they embark on the critical task of ensuring a smooth transition in the management of Ghana’s national security apparatus.

Further announcements regarding permanent appointments to key security positions are expected in the coming weeks.
