Former President John Mahama on Tuesday, 21 July 2020, announced that he has had to cut short his tours of the various voter registration centres over COVID-19 fears.
“I have cut short my unannounced visit to some voter registration centres in Accra and Tema this afternoon”, he said on Facebook.
“This is because of the very low awareness of the #COVID19 protocols, including physical distancing and the wearing of masks”, he explained.
“We have to step up public education on COVID-19 so that people can appreciate the risk reduction protocols”, the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) noted.
Mr Mahama began his tours of the registration centres in the Volta Region about two weeks ago.
Ghana recently recorded 559 more COVID-19 cases, taking the total national caseload to 28,989.
So far, 25,331 patients have recovered.
The death toll is 153.
The total number of active cases is 3,505.

Briefing journalists on Tuesday, 21 July 2020, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye said: “As of yesterday [Monday] when we concluded our collation of the results, we had 3,505 active cases. This represents 12.2 per cent of all the cases ever reported”.
He said the recoveries account for about 84.7 per cent of all cases reported. “This gives us a cumulative figure from the 12th of March, since we recorded our first case. We have recorded 153 deaths which accounts for 0.53 per cent of cases”, Dr Kuma-Aboagye noted.
So far, the total number of tests conducted is 353,752.
He also revealed that as of 21 July 2020, a total backlog of 23,000 COVID-19 samples are awaiting clearing.
