President of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Paa Kwasi Baidoo
has hinted an increased number of confirmed cases due to the on-going testing of contacts with people who showed positive to cornavirus over the weeks.
According to him, the recorded cases so far is the result of weeks of lockdown with more samples under investigation.
Speaking in an interview on Ahotor 92.3 FMs political show hosted by Emmanuel Martey (aka Alaska De Don) Dr. Baidoo , warned against trivializing the pandemic, adding that, if the situation is not holistically dealt with, it could escalate with more casualties.
Currently, the number of confirmed cases stands at 834 with 99 recovered and 9 deaths across the country, with the Greater Accra leading the infection rate.
Commenting on the availability of logistics, Dr Baidoo insisted on the need to acquire more Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) to be distributed to all needing health facilities, to protect the front line health workers.
Noting the poor nurse to patient ratio, and it would be disastrous if the few health professionals get infected. This he explained would put more strain on the remaining professionals to the detriment of the recovery rate of the infected patients.
The GMA President disclosed their oath to save lives, even at the peril of their lives, but not when the citizens refuse to take the minimum precautions to protect themselves against covid-19.
