The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has acknowledged that it is still not prepared to file for a presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 general elections, despite the limited time left.
According to Richard Nii Armah Esq., a leading member of the party, no one has expressed interest in leading the PPP as a presidential candidate, despite the party opening nominations.
In an interview on Property Daybreak with Anigye Hene Abeiku Yamoah, Mr. Nii Armah shared that the party’s current focus seems to be on parliamentary slots, where more candidates have shown interest and are already actively campaigning.
He mentioned constituencies such as Ashaiman, Odododiodio, and Dome-Kwabenya, as key areas where the PPP is actively engaged.
Although nominations for the presidential ticket remain open, Mr. Nii Armah acknowledged that it is a challenging decision due to the financial and logistical demands of running a presidential campaign.
He also highlighted the PPP’s constitutional requirements, stating that beyond being Ghanaian, a presidential candidate must have served the party for a certain period to qualify.
Despite the challenges, the PPP remains hopeful that someone will step forward to represent the party in the presidential race.
