A sociologist and a renowned speaker, Dr. Akpabli has stated that politicians do not trust the standard of health facilities in the country because of partisanship amongst doctors and health workers.
According to him, politicians have the fear of not receiving the best of care from our doctors due to allegiance of some with opposition political parties.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s morning show with the host, Onantefour Addea Mununkum, Dr. Akpabli stated that most doctors in the country are highly qualified to treat all ailments but the polarized political structure in the country may put fear in the average politician who might seek treatment from them.
“If someone falls sick and in the helm of affairs in the country and visits a hospital in his or her own country, he or she might have this psychological feeling and might be apprehensive on the people that might treat them, weather the doctors belong to their party or not. Even if they are from the same party there might be some mistrust.”
“So to make some sense they leave the country and go outside and are attended to by doctors who have nothing to do with politics in their countries”
He further stated that the politicians should make the health facilities in the country, meet the standard of any international hospital in the world.
Dr. Akpabli stated that the government should streamline structures in the health facilities and create the enabling environment to help doctors work without any political undertone or influence.
“This will be the only way through which the politician can put his or her life in the hands of doctors in the country without any fear”. He concluded.
