Police warn against disruption ahead of NDC Northern Regional elections

The Northern Regional Police Command has warned the public against acts of intimidation, violence and disruption ahead of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regional executive elections scheduled for November 13 and 14 in Tamale.

Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, said intelligence gathered by the police indicated rising tensions ahead of the exercise, prompting the command to caution political actors and other stakeholders against actions that could undermine the peaceful conduct of the elections.

Speaking to the media, he urged individuals without accreditation to stay away from the election grounds at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium to prevent unnecessary confrontations and ensure proper crowd control.

DCOP Lavoe called on all stakeholders to cooperate with the police, stressing that insults, attacks, intimidation and attempts to disrupt the electoral process would not be tolerated.

He warned that anyone found engaging in misconduct or attempting to undermine the exercise would face the necessary security action.

The Police Commander assured the public of the command’s preparedness to maintain law and order throughout the two-day elections.

He further disclosed that 400 police personnel would be deployed to provide security within and around the stadium.

According to him, officers would be stationed at the inner, middle and outer perimeters, as well as at the various entrances, while others would undertake patrols and remain on standby.

The deployment, he explained, is intended to control crowds and ensure that only accredited persons authorised to enter the stadium are granted access.

The NDC Northern Regional executive elections are scheduled to take place on November 13 and 14, 2026, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
