The Ghana Police Service has cautioned final-year Senior High School students across the country to celebrate responsibly and refrain from engaging in unlawful activities as they complete the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on Friday, June 19.
In a statement, the Police reminded students that acts of violence, vandalism, arson, assault, and other criminal conduct carry serious legal consequences that could negatively affect their future prospects and academic achievements. The Service stressed that it would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any student found engaging in such acts.
The Police cited two recent incidents in the Upper East Region involving student violence. At Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were arrested in connection with the alleged arson of a teacher’s apartment. In a separate incident at Bawku Senior High School, four students were arrested for allegedly engaging in rioting, assaulting school staff, and destroying both school and private property.
According to the Police, the six arrests serve as a reminder of the consequences of misconduct and the need for students to exercise restraint and discipline as they conclude their examinations.
The Ghana Police Service further called on parents, guardians, teachers, and school authorities to work closely with students to promote peace, discipline, and responsible behaviour during the post-examination period.
The Service urged all candidates to celebrate their completion of the WASSCE in a lawful and respectful manner, emphasizing that protecting their future should remain a priority.
