Asante Kotoko’s quest for maximum points was thwarted by a determined FC Samartex side, as the two teams played out a thrilling 1-1 draw in Samraboi on Saturday afternoon.
Kotoko had dominated this fixture prior to kick off winning four of their last five meetings since November 2022, while Samartex had won just once. The Porcupine Warriors had scored six goals in these encounters, with Samartex netting three.
Samartex currently ninth on the table will now move to 28 points from 21 games, having recorded six wins, ten draws, and five defeats. Despite their solid defensive record they have conceded 12 goals all season they have struggled in attack, scoring only 13 goals at an average of 0.65 per game.
The match, which was part of the Ghana Premier League’s match day 24, saw both teams create scoring opportunities, but ultimately settle for a share of the spoils.
The hosts, Samartex, drew first blood through Dramani Awuah’s 38th-minute strike, which sent the home crowd into raptures. However, Asante Kotoko’s Kwame Poku had other plans, as he scored the equalizer just a minute into the second half, restoring parity to the match.
Despite their best efforts, neither team could find the winning goal, as the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate. The draw marks a slight setback for Asante Kotoko, who had been on a winning streak in their last two games in all competitions, while Samartex extends their unbeaten run to six matches.

The result leaves Asante Kotoko at the top of the table, while Samartex occupies the 9th position. As the league slowly reaches its climax, both teams will be looking to maximize their points tally in the remaining matches.
