Playing against a big team like Hearts of Oak motivated us to win – Kofi Tompuo

Bechem United midfielder Kofi Tompuo has credited his team’s motivation and strong mentality for their 1-0 victory over Hearts of Oak at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on Wednesday.

Tompuo, who scored the only goal in the 52nd minute, believes the stature of Hearts of Oak pushed his side to deliver a determined performance.

According to him, facing a club of that magnitude naturally comes with added motivation and expectations.

“Hearts of Oak is a big team, and everyone watches you when you face them, which comes with expectations too,” Tompuo said.

“Already, every member of the team was determined to win the match, and once we get into that mood at home, we always win.”

He also took a swipe at Hearts of Oak’s game plan, stating that they relied too much on long balls instead of controlling possession.

“Their plan was to hit long balls at every opportunity. Conversely, we came to possess the ball, be expressive, and fluid,” he said.

Bechem United remains unbeaten at home this season, securing 29 out of their 36 points at their own ground. The win lifted them to fourth place, just four points behind league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars.
