The Community Health Improvement Services (CHIPS) Compound at Danso, a Community in the Upper West Akyem Constituency has been abandoned by the current Health ministry and the government.

A visit to the facility by ahotoronline.com showed that the facility had its doors and nets destroyed. The chip compound was overgrown with weeds and neglected to the mercy of the weather.

Speaking to the former Assemblyman of the town, Mr. Evans Adisi, stated that the facility was built by the past NDC government in fulfillment of their campaign promise and means to make health care accessible to all.

“I am so sad that such a facility will be abandoned by the current government. Pregnant women travel to the neighboring town Adeaso to seek for medical attention which is a distance from here [Danso]”

“Several petitions have been sent to the district assembly for a major intervention with regards to this worrying development but it has not yielded any positive result” he stated.

When the team tried contacting the district assembly for further details, personnel refused comments.

The former president H.E John Mahama, the vice and cabinet ministers kept 10% salary cut into consolidated fund to support CHIPS compounds established in various rural communities which included Danso and other villages across the country.

This was to make healthcare more accessible to rural folks.

The concept of CHIPS compounds was developed few years ago to make healthcare easily accessible for persons living in rural areas especially in times of emergencies.

One key challenge CHIPS compounds address is maternal health which falls in line with Millennium Development Goal 5 that seeks to reduce by three quarters the maternal mortality ratio and achieve universal access to reproductive health.

Below are pictures of the deplorable CHIPS Compound,
