
Former Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission Director, Dr Antwi Anane has urged the government to do the right thing to gain investors and trust of others.
Dr. Antwi Anane’s words struck a chord with many, as the issue of government integrity in honoring bond obligations has been a pressing concern for investors.
The Pensioners Bondholders Forum, a group representing the interests of pensioners who have invested in government bonds, has been vocal about the need for the government to demonstrate its commitment to honoring bond obligations.
According to Dr. Anane, the government’s actions will have a significant impact on the market’s trust. “If the government defaults on its bond obligations, it will send a negative signal to investors, making them wary of investing in the market,” he explained. “On the other hand, if the government honors its obligations, it will rebuild trust and encourage more people to invest.”
The Pensioners Bondholders Forum has been urging the government to take concrete steps to address the concerns of bondholders. The group has proposed several measures, including the establishment of a sinking fund to ensure that the government has sufficient funds to honor its bond obligations.
