Patience Seyram Hehemenu, popularly known as Patshantel, the only woman contesting for the position of Constituency Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ledzokuku, has pledged to strengthen grassroots communication, train party communicators and improve the party’s visibility if elected.
Speaking on Ahotor92.3 FM’s Morning Show Adekyee Mu Nsem with Nana Dogbe in Accra-Tema, Patshantel, who is campaigning under the slogan “Obaanaa,” said her ability to speak eight languages would help her communicate the party’s ideology, policies and achievements to residents from different linguistic backgrounds.
She acknowledged that she had not previously held a substantive position on the constituency executive but said she worked with the constituency’s communication team during the 2024 general election campaign. She also cited her political experience as a branch executive in 2012 and her involvement in campaigns for former Ledzokuku MP Sena Okiti-Duah.
Patshantel expressed concern that the NDC’s communication in Ledzokuku was not reaching grassroots members and ordinary residents effectively. She argued that communication was central to the success of every political party and pledged to bridge the gap by taking the party’s message directly to communities across the constituency.
“If I assess communication in the constituency, I believe it is low. Every party’s backbone is communication, but the message is not getting to the grassroots and the people of Ledzokuku,” she stated.
She said her priorities would include training communicators to articulate the party’s message effectively, promoting teamwork and unity among constituency members, and making the party’s activities and achievements more visible. She added that speaking eight languages would help her connect with residents who speak Ga, Twi, Ewe and other languages.
Patshantel described her decision to contest as a demonstration of her courage and determination to contribute to the party’s development. She said she was prepared to bring her experience and commitment to the role if delegates gave her the mandate.
She appealed to delegates to support her in the upcoming constituency elections, urging them to remember her campaign slogan, “Obaanaa,” and her position as the only woman in the race. Patshantel will appear as Number 3 on the ballot paper and is asking delegates to vote for her on the 25th to strengthen the NDC’s communication and grassroots engagement in Ledzokuku.
